You have taken an important step towards making a significant impact on the excellent educational programs offered at BMS.  Volunteers pride enrichment opportunities that enhance the educational experience for students while supporting our teachers and staff.  Volunteers also help build a strong foundation for students as they continue along their educational journey.

As you enhance and support the academic programs, it is important to also help students have a positive attitude that will get them through challenging times as they grow and learn.  By modeling for students the kinds of expectations they need to succeed, you help them develop into productive citizens of the community.  We urge you to become a strong advocate by sharing your positive experience with others and encouraging them to become involved at the Middle School.

Goals of volunteering

Volunteering at the Middle School is a unique and exciting experience.  It is both a benefit to both the school and the volunteer.  Volunteers who are committed to helping students be successful are important partners in academic achievement. 

Goals:

1. Enhance student’s learning opportunities

2. Provide help for individual students

3. Increase students’ self-esteem and motivation to learn

4. Establish a school and community partnership for quality education

5. Assist teachers and other staff members

Tips for Volunteers

· Stay positive and supportive

· Names are important

· Be trustworthy and honest

· Avoid comparing students

· Show that you are interested by listening carefully

· Talk to a staff member when a concern arises
