BUSINESS PRINCIPLES

Business Principles is designed to give students an understanding of the characteristics, the organization, and the operations of a business from the view of both employer and employee. Special areas to be studied are characteristics of business, forms of business ownership, production and marketing management, the stock market, finance, insurance, and budgeting. |

KEYBOARDING/ COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
Grades 9-12 1 semester/2 semesters
Elective 0.5 unit/1.0 unit
Keyboarding/Computer Applications involves three main areas: keyboarding—learning to type by touch, developing correct habits, and improving speed and accuracy; formatting—learning to arrange letters, reports, and tables correctly; and production—applying the skills and knowledge learned toward practical applications. Students learn to use Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher.. |

ADVANCED KEYBOARDING/
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
Grades 10-12 1 semester/2 semesters
Elective 0.5 unit/1.0 unit
Advanced Keyboarding/ Computer Applications will strengthen basic keyboarding skills and expand the student’s repertoire of the production of formats, including business and personal letters, reports, tabulation reports, and business forms. Students will expand their knowledge of Microsoft Office software along with other application programs. |

ACCOUNTING
Grades 11-12 2 semesters
Elective 1.0 unit
Accounting is a study of the basic principles, concepts, and procedures of accounting needed in the business world. The complete accounting cycle is studied. Periodic projects, practice sets and a computerized accounting program give the students and opportunity to use their acquired skills in simulated settings. |

PERSONAL FINANCE
Grade 10-12 1 semester
Required 0.5 unit
This new course, mandated for graduation beginning with the class of 2010, will instruct students in the essential principles of managing personal finance. Some of the topics will include developing a home budget, understanding credit cards, interest, mortgages, investments, insurance, and the importance of planning for retirement while young. |

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Grades 11-12 1 semester (2nd)
Elective 0.5 unit
Entrepreneurship is open to tenth grade students with department/ Principal approval.
Entrepreneurship students examine and experience for themselves the steps involved in creating an individual business plan. Concepts covered include marketing, finance, and management issues. |

6th GRADE EXPLORATORY
WORD PROCESSING/COMPUTER APPLICATIONS (one quarter)
This course allows students to develop keyboarding skills. Along with increasing word processing skills students will work with Excel, PowerPoint and Desktop Publishing.
