ADVANCED/COLLEGE CREDIT Grades 11-12 2 semesters
WESTERN CIVILIZATION Elective 1.0 units
Prerequisite: A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for enrollment for college credit.
Advanced/College Credit Western Civilization is designed to provide the student with an in-depth study of European history. Emphasis is placed on the chronological periods that illustrate the evolutions of man his institutions from antiquity to the seventeenth century. The topics studies are the Ancient World; the Roman Empire and its decline; the early and high Middle Ages’ the later Middle Ages and the Renaissance; and the Reformation and the Wars of Religion. This course requires extensive reading, discussion, and possible research.
The second semester provides insight into the period from the seventeenth century to the present day. Topics considered are Europe in the Age of Louis XIV, the eighteenth century, the French Revolution, and the World since 1914.
College Credit may be earned through the University of Missouri-St. Louis or through the Advanced Placement Testing Program administered by the College Board

PERSONAL FITNESS & Grades 10-12 1 semester/ 2semesters
STRENGTH TRAINING Elective 0.5 unit/1.0 unit
Prerequisite: Students must have attained at least a C grade in this course before they can take additional semesters. (Exception: Approval of Department Chair and/or Principal
This class is designed for those students who want to actively participate in strength development and aerobic conditioning. The class will include strength training, flexibility training, circuit training, walking and use of cardio equipment. The class will also examine the aspects of body composition and nutrition as they relate to the healthy, active person. Students will develop their own personal fitness programs as well as assess their fitness level on a regular basis. |

PHYSICAL EDUCATION Grades 9-12 1 semester/2semesters
Elective 0.5 unit/1.0 unit
The focus of this class will be on team and dual sports with an increased emphasis on lifetime and recreational activities. Activities may include, but are not limited to the following: volleyball, soccer, tennis, badminton, basketball, bowling, table tennis, softball, team handball, pickle ball, ultimate Frisbee, and an introduction to personal fitness/strength training in the Fitness Center. Skill development, strategy, and rules will be emphasized. Other related activities may be played depending on the needs of the class. |
