Hello!
It is my pleasure to be serving the Brentwood School District and Mark Twain for the 2011-2012 school year. This is my 40th year in education. My experience includes 20 years in the classroom including 7 years as a Reading Specialist. This is my 20th year as an elementary principal. My education qualifications include a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education, a Masters degree in Reading, a Masters in Elementary Administration, and I have completed my coursework and comprehensive exams for a Doctorate with an emphasis in Character Education.
Ten years ago I accepted the position as your principal at Mark Twain. It has been my pleasure to work with the wonderful children, talented staff and caring community. I am most proud of the strides we have made in the areas of Character Education and Academic Excellence. After eight years of implementing programs such as the Character Council, Student Buddies, and our nationally recognized “Families” program we were named a Missouri School of Character in 2008 and 2011. In 2011 we were named a National School of Character. In April of 2009 we were named a Missouri Gold Star School. In September 2009, we received the National Blue Ribbon Award. The Blue Ribbon is the highest award a school can receive and is truly a reflection of our community's commitment to excellence.Sincerely,
Mrs. Karen Smith
